ABOUT OUR CALATHEA LEOPARDINA
Hey, I’m Will. Officially my name is the Calathea Leopardina but I think we’re going to be mates so please call me Will. As you can see from my profile pic, I have bright green leaves with attractive dark green stripes running across my leaves. My striking foliage likes to be kept out of bright or direct sunlight. If you place me in a bright room you might notice my stripes turning brown or fading all together. To avoid this, place me in a medium lit room or at least a few metres away from any large windows.
You can find me in the Amazon rainforest where I enjoy dappled sunlight, high humidity and lovely warm temperatures of at least 20ºC. You might notice my leaves start to curl if I'm placed in a room that dips lower than 18ºC. I’m part of a huge family of over 500 known species and we all boast different colours and patterns. Check out my siblings Marty, Freddie, Mike and Ziggy if you have been captivated by the Calathea look.
I think my brightly coloured leaves would be a perfect addition to a living room when I can bring joy to your family members everyday. If your bathroom is in need of a splash of greenery I will certainly benefit from the high levels of humidity.
Small Height (including nursery pot) 40cm; pot diameter 12cm.

THINGS WE ALWAYS GET ASKED
How do you care for a Calathea?
Will is a very rewarding houseplant to care for and will push out lots of new growth if placed in a warm and humid room. Naturally found in the Brazillian rainforest, Will prefers high levels of humidity. He should be placed in a humid room, next to a humidifier or in a steamy bathroom. Keep Will in a spot when he will receive plenty of new natural light but not in a spot when his leaves will burn from the sun. The perfect temperature for Will is between 18-25ºC. He is more likely to grow faster in a warmer room. Will is a bit sensitive to the chemicals found in tap water. Filtered or rain water is best for watering and will keep any crispy, brown leaves at bay.
Are prayer plants hard to care for?
They can be tricky to take care of if watered with tap water or placed in a room with low humidity. For the best chance of success, place Will near a humidifier and only water him with rain or filtered water. This will help keep any brown leaves at bay.
How often should you water a Calathea Leopardina?
The best way to tell when Will is ready for a drink is to feel the first inch of his soil. Never water Will when the top soil still feels damp/wet. In the summer months Will might need a drink twice a week but this will need to be reduced in the winter months when he will not need as much water.
