ABOUT OUR CHLOROPHYTUM ORCHIDASTRUM 'FIRE FLASH'
Hi there, I’m Freya the Chlorophytum Orchidastrum. I’m not expecting you to pronounce my formal name correctly so please call me the fire flash plant, orange spider plant or simply Freya. My deep green leaves boast a bright orange stem which I think really does liven up the plant. My orange stems are so perfect for designing a summer look for your home. Ultimately, who doesn’t love a bit of colour?
I’m from the same family as Bonnie the Spider plant and have pretty similar care. In my natural habitat you can find me in tropical countries in Eastern Africa where I grow in partial shade, high humidity and warm temperatures. I make the perfect indoor plant because I prefer temperatures of 18-25°C. You may notice my foliage look a bit sad if I’m placed in a cold or dark part of the home. Ideally, I would thrive in a bathroom or nearby a humidifier. Take a look at our blog on how to increase humidity in your home for tips on keeping Freya happy.
My bright coloured stems are exactly what the summer months are all about. Decorate me in a well lit and humid part of your home.
Small Height (including decorative pot) 13cm; pot diameter 40cm.

THINGS WE ALWAYS GET ASKED
How do you care for a fire flash plant?
Freya is a beautiful tropical plant. To keep your fire flash plant happy, keep it in a room between 18-25°C. If the temperature dips lower than this you might notice the foliage start to droop and look overall a little sad. Place Freya in a well lit room with plenty of indirect sunlight. This tropical plant can tolerate medium light but will grow faster in a sunnier and warmer room. Avoid direct sunlight as this will burn the foliage. When watering Freya use rain or filtered water as using tap water can cause brown spots or edges on the foliage. These plants can be a bit sensitive to the harsh chemicals found in tap water.
How often do you water a fire flash plant?
The best way to tell if your fire flash plant needs watering is by feeling the first two inches of the soil. These plants can be sensitive to soggy soil or overwatering which may lead to root rot. Let the first few inches of soil dry out before you water again.
Can you mist a fire flash plant?
The fire flash plant needs high levels of humidity to thrive. You might notice Freya’s leaves turn brown if placed in a room with dry air. Misting on its own will not be enough to consistently increase the humidity around the plant so a humidifier or pebble tray is preferred. Check out our reels on instagram at @pointless_plants for a video on making a pebble tray to help increase humidity.
