ABOUT OUR SENECIO ROWLEYANUS
Hi There, I’m blobby the Senecio Rowleyanus. I wouldn't worry about the pronunciation of my name, most people call me the string of pearls or string of peas (for obvious reasons). It’s a good thing I’m named after a vegetable so I can be your daily reminder to eat your veg! These pea-like vines you are admiring can reach up to 1 metre. As soon as my long vines become overgrown you can snip off the extra and make another one of me.
I hail all the way from the driest parts of South west Africa where I attach myself to rock crevices and tree trunks. My vining nature allows me to grow and climb over any surface. I’m a wonderful plant for beginners and won’t take too much of your time. Being from the succulent family I can hold water in my leaves for many weeks at a time. Don’t worry if you forget to water me - I’ll soldier on. I do prefer a sunnier spot in the home so place me near a south facing window or in a well lit conservatory. This will certainly help encourage my vines to grow at a faster rate.
Small Height (including nursery pot) 25-35cm; pot diameter 14cm.

THINGS WE ALWAYS GET ASKED
How do you take care of a string of pearls?
Blobby is a funky and cool vining plant that is easy to maintain if given the right care. He’s the ideal plant for beginners, forgetful waterers and frequent travellers. Blobby will hold water in his bead like leaves and will be able to tolerate periods of drought. He has a shallow root system and can be very sensitive to overly wet soil. It’s always best to allow his soil to dry out between waterings. The perfect indoor temperature for Blobby is between 18-25°C where he will prefer warm temperatures in the growth season. He can tolerate much cooler temperatures in the winter months when he is in a dormancy stage resting up for the following spring.
How often should I water my string of pearls?
Blobby prefers his soil on the drier side and will be able to go a few weeks at a time without watering. The most common reason Blobby will turn brown or wilt is from overwatering. In the winter you can water him much less frequently - once a month should be enough.
Does a string of pearls need direct sunlight?
The string of pearls should be kept away from direct sunlight especially in the summer months when the sun is at its hottest. Keep Blobby in a well lit room that gets 6-8 hours of bright sun a day. A bright conservatory or about a metre away from a south facing window is perfect.
