ABOUT OUR MUSA TROPICANA
Hi there, I’m Barry the Musa Tropicana. I’m known around here as the dwarf cavendish banana plant. I’m truly the perfect houseplant for summer and will bring the feeling of the warm Caribbean tropics into your space. I really love the sunshine and will grow very quickly if placed near a south facing window. Pair me with Roger and Sasha for the ultimate tropical jungle that you can get lost in. My tropical leaves and a colourful cocktail is all you’ll need this summer.
Like most houseplants I’m native to Southeast Asia. Here with the other species of Musaceae we enjoy the sunny climate and thrive with high levels of humidity. In the wild, I grow in big groups and can reach heights of 2 metres. The best place for me is next to a humidifier or in a steamy bathroom. You can also group me with other humidity loving plants like Pete, Hamish and Bonnie that can help boost the overall humidity in your home.
I’m an ideal plant for a sunroom, bright kitchen or conservatory. My luscious tropical leaves are exactly what summer is made for and it’s time for you to be swept into foliage heaven.
Small Height (including nursery pot) 30-35cm; pot diameter 12cm.

QUICK MUSA TROPICANA PLANT CARE
Barry needs plenty of sunshine, water and fertiliser to thrive.
I prefer the sunny weather. Place me in the sunniest part of your home.
I need regular watering - especially in the hot months. I’ll need watering every time my topsoil starts to dry out. This could be 2-3 times a week in the warm weather.
In the summer months use a houseplant fertiliser once every two weeks to promote my healthy growth.

Only re-pot in the spring or summer and when the roots begin to grow out of the drainage holes.
Can you grow a Musa banana tree outside in the UK?
Yes, Barry can be placed outside during the spring and summer months. It’s important that the temperatures outside are at least 15 ºC even during the night. The Musa tropicana is not cold tolerant and will wilt and die if exposed to cold temperatures.
