ABOUT OUR ANANAS CHAMPACA

Hello, I'm Philippa the Ananas Champaca or otherwise known as the pineapple plant. Summer is just round the corner and I'm so looking forward to catching some sun. I love bright, direct sunlight so place me in a south facing window and I'll be as happy as can be. As a houseplant I'm traditionally used as an ornamental plant that can help bring some exotic vibes into your living space. Although in the summer people occasionally place me in their gardens so I have better access to sunlight, I’ll definitely grow faster this way.

I’m part of the Bromeliads family that is known to house over 3,500 species. I’m part of the same family as some other loved houseplants like Tilly our Tillandsia. I’m usually found in the southern states of America and South America where I enjoy the hot sun and warm climate. I’m also cultivated in desert-like countries in Africa. I’m a sun loving plant that enjoys consistent watering and lots of fertiliser to keep my foliage healthy and vibrant.

Let my tropical foliage bring all the summer vibes to your indoor jungle. I’m ready to be your next plant obsession.

Small Height (including pot) 35cm; pot diameter 12cm.

DID YOU KNOW?

Pineapple plants will only produce fruit once they reach maturity. Each plant will flower just once and produce one pineapple.

The Pineapple plant has the perfect tropical vibes for the spring and summer. She'll bring exotic flair to your home.

THINGS WE ALWAYS GET ASKED

How do you care for a pineapple plant indoors?

Taking care of the pineapple plant is easy and rewarding. She will need plenty of sunlight, regular watering and frequent fertilising. Place your pineapple plant in a south facing window or outside in the warmer months. Don’t worry about her leaves burning in the sun, she is a hardy plant. In the summer months you can water her once-twice a week but avoid letting the soil get soggy. The pineapple plant is more likely to produce fruit if placed in enough bright light.

Can you eat a pineapple plant?

Yes, not only is Philipa a fantastic ornamental plant but she is the only plant of its species that produces edible fruit.

Why is my pineapple plant not fruiting?

The pineapple plant will only produce fruit when it has reached its maturity age of two years old. To help encourage the pineapple plant to produce fruit you can place your plant by a south facing window or get a grow light for your plant in the winter months when the days are shorter.

PLANT STYLING TIPS

The pineapple is traditionally used as an ornamental plant for styling indoor homes. Place her on display in a sunny conservatory or living room where her tropical vibes will help create the illusion that you’re on a warm Caribbean beach.
