ABOUT OUR MONSTERA ADANSONII
Hello, I’m Monkey the Monstera. I have so many names but people like to call me the monkey mask plant. I’m actually the rarer brother of the more famous Monstera deliciosa or Swiss cheese plant - and his stardom sure does make for some serious sibling rivalry. While he might be better known, I think I’m a tad more interesting. While his leaves grow to look like someone’s sliced the edges of them, mine are circular, like someone’s taken a holepunch to me.
Originally I’m from the warm climates of Central and South American, which means I’m a fan of a warm and humid climate and will be most happy when my natural habitat can be imitated. I can handle all types of lighting and I’m very easy to grow so get your bamboo sticks or moss poles at the ready for my fast-growing foliage, which can practically take over a room if I’m feeling full of life.
You can style my foliage to cascade down into tropical waves or drape me around a moss pole and I’ll continue climbing up.
Small height (including nursery pot) 25cm; pot diameter 12cm.
Big with a moss pole height (including nursery pot) 65-75cm; pot diameter 16cm.
DID YOU KNOW?
Found deep in tropical forests, the Monstera Adansonii’s iconic holey leaves have evolved to allow light through so that the lower leaves still have access to some sunlight.
Monkey’s a tough cookie, and his quirky foliage will grow and grow, making a bold statement in your room and encouraging plenty of compliments.
QUICK MONSTERA ADANSONII PLANT CARE
Monkey is easy to take care of providing his delicate leaves are not placed in direct sunlight.
I can adapt to lower light but also will grow much faster in a well-lit room.
I prefer my soil to dry out in between each watering. Let the first five centimetres of my soil dry out before you water me again.
I prefer higher levels of humidity; this will stop my leaves from going crispy and dry.
Fertilise me once every month in the growth season. Don’t fertilise me in the winter months.

THINGS WE ALWAYS GET ASKED
How do you care for a Monstera adansonii?
The best way to care for the Monstera adansonii is by keeping him in a warm part of the home away from any drafts or open windows. However, if you notice the Monstera’s leaves curling, it’s a sign that he needs to be moved to a warmer spot.
In terms of a watering schedule, this should be kept to a minimum in the winter but always check to make sure the first few centimetres of soil are dry before watering again. Keep an eye out: you may notice the Monstera’s leaves turning yellow, which indicates that Monkey is feeling overly soggy.
Lighting requirements for the Monstera can range from low to bright, providing his leaves are kept out of full midday sun. It’s also important to keep his humidity high by misting him frequently or placing him on a tray filled with pebbles and water.
Is the Monstera adansonii a rare houseplant?

PLANT STYLING TIPS
Monkey’s foliage can be styled however you wish. You can drape it around a moss pole and encourage his upward growth or place him in a hanging pot and have his delicate leaves hang loose. Our best pot for the monstera is the white sandstone pot, which will help absorb extra moisture - a perfect choice for the heavy waterer!
