ABOUT OUR SCINDAPSUS PICTUS
Hi, I’m Marble! I’m a truly magnificent plant, known to botanists as the less than elegant mouthful, Scindapsus pictus. But to you I’m a satin pothos or silver pothos, named for the glorious silver sheen you’ll notice on my heart shaped leaves. Since you’re here, I’m guessing you’ve got exquisite taste; I have a feeling we’ll get on very well.
Although my vibrant, variegated foliage may look like a handful, I can reassure you that I’m very easy to care for. Native to countries across Asia and Polynesia, I’m a fast-growing evergreen vine and I let my gorgeous, silky leaves hang loose around my pot, particularly if you pair me with a hanging planter. I’m also a keen climber, which is why you can buy me with a moss pole, too.
Deciding how I’ll grow is the biggest decision you’ll have to make. In fact, while I certainly look a million dollars, I’m no diva and you won’t need to give me any more attention than I deserve. Just rely on my gorgeous leaves to bring joy into your home or office.
Small height (including nursery pot) 20cm; pot diameter 12cm.
Medium height (including nursery pot) 30-40cm; pot diameter 15cm.
DID YOU KNOW?
In the wild, Marble is known to climb trees, but, as she does, her leaves grow big and flat against the trunk, creating a beautiful but ultimately fatal pattern. Eventually, she’ll strangle and kill the tree.
Marble will grow with gusto over the summer months, creating a gorgeous trailing plant whose overgrown foliage can be propagated to make another silver pothos!
QUICK SCINDAPSUS PLANT CARE
A popular houseplant that will continue to grow long, luscious vines with minimal effort.
I can tolerate low, medium and bright light. Keep me out of direct sunlight as this will burn my leaves.
I prefer my soil on the drier side and can go many weeks without a drink in the winter. Let the first few inches of my soil dry out before you water me again.
I prefer a humid environment but I can tolerate lower levels of humidity.
Use a diluted fertiliser once a month in the summer to encourage new growth. Do not fertilise me in the winter months.

THINGS WE ALWAYS GET ASKED
How do you take care of a Scindapsus pictus?
The Scindapsus pictus is surprisingly easy to care for and is resilient to most indoor environments. Keep the plant in a warm environment with plenty of indirect sunlight and check the soil weekly; you should only water when the first few centimetres are dry. These plants are used to periods of drought and will survive without frequent waterings.
For humidity levels that’ll keep Marble sweet, place her in your bathroom or by a humidifier so as to avoid crisp leaves.
While this plant can tolerate lower levels of light, after a while, its variegation will begin to fade in these conditions. To keep the variegated pattern, Marble should be placed in a well lit room.
Why are my Scindapsus pictus leaves curling?
The most common reason that the Scindapsus pictus will curl its leaves is from lack of watering. The plant does this to indicate it’s ready for a drink; a good, thorough dose of water should help the leaves return to normal. Curling leaves could also suggest that the plant is suffering from cold stress so it’s good to keep Marble away from any open windows or cold draughts.
Do satin pothos like humidity?
Yes, as the satin pothos is a tropical plant, she much prefers humidity levels of at least 50%. Most household humidity levels are between 30% and 40%, so to increase the humidity in your home, you can use a pebble tray underneath the plant, put the plant near a humidifier or place her in the bathroom.
