ABOUT OUR ALOCASIA SARIAN
Hey there, I’m Serena. I’m the Alocasia Sarian but I’m commonly known as the African mask plant and elephant ear plant. As you can see I have rich dark green foliage with bright yellow veins. Very eye-catching don’t you think? Apparently, I’m a hybrid plant - a cross between Zara the Alocasia Zebrina and the Alocasia Micholitziana. Being a hybrid I’m truly a one of a kind plant with an out of this world look.
Being a hybrid I’m a little hardier than some of the other Alocasia species that are found in the tropical rainforests. I can adapt to my surroundings but I prefer a warm room that is away from any open windows, drafts or radiators. I’m also a humidity lover and would ideally like to be placed in a room with a humidifier, on a pebble tray or in a humid room. If the humidity in your home is low you can use Lily the peace lily and Bonnie the spider plant who will release humidity into your home.
My cool and funky foliage can be used to decorate a well lit corner of the room. I’m sure to attract everyone's attention no matter where you place me.
Medium Height (including nursery pot) 50-55cm; pot diameter 14cm.

THINGS WE ALWAYS GET ASKED
How do you take care of an Alocasia Sarian?
The Alocasia species can be a little fussy. When they get used to their new environment you might see a few leaves drop. This is perfectly normal and new leaves will regrow in time. She prefers high levels of humidity and so misting alone won’t do the trick; a humidifier or steamy bathroom is preferred. The occasional leaf drop may occur if placed in a room that is cooler than 18ºC or if there’s an excessive heat source like a radiator. If possible, filtered or rain water is preferred as the chemicals found in tap water may cause the leaves to yellow.
Are Alocasia hybrids rare?
Yes, Alocasia hybrids are very rare and can be tricky to get a hold of. The Alocasia species has become increasingly popular in the last 5 years which is making the plant more widely available.
How much sun does an Alocasia need?
The Alocasia will grow best in a well lit room about a metre away from a large window. Be sure to never let any direct sunlight touch their delicate foliage. This will burn the foliage.
PLANT STYLING TIPS
Serena can be styled in a bright bathroom or living room. Place her next to a white wall or in a grey clay pot to make sure her foliage really pops. The Alocasia species is poisonous if ingested so it’s best to place her on a high shelf or table away from any children or curious pets.
To match her grey pot use our white Quartz crystals in your living room or snug area for positivity and good vibes in the most relaxing part of your home.
